2015 is my first year as a sponsored athlete and I am loving every minute of it. Getting to represent this great brand is an honour. Additionally, looking the part in training and racing has given me a big boost in confidence in feeling more professional.
I've been lucky enough to have been receiving support from Teck for a number of years as a part of their Possibilities Fund. In 2010 Teck supplied the metal for the Olympic Medals for the games in Vancouver. They are a huge supporter of Canadian Sport and I am thankful for the opportunities their assistance has given me over the years.
Sport Canada is the governing body for sport and responsible for the Athlete Assistance Program (AAP) or "carding". Carding has been absolutely crucial to shaping me both as the athlete I am today, as well as the person I am. Besides providing a monthly training allowance of $1500 they have also provided tuition support throughout my degree, allowing me receive my diploma with substantially reduced financial pressure. The training allowance has allowed to me focus full time on being an athlete and focusing on becoming the best in the world.
Our national body for Athletics has supported myself and Race Walk West in many ways. Besides having additional funding for targeted athletes to help with travel and training camp costs, they have also helped me to build the amazing support team I have around me!
BC Athletics has a small pool of funding for Nationally Carded athletes. The bulk of their funding goes to helping developing athletes.
Canadian Sport Institute- Pacific
CSI- Pacific provides services such as body-composition assessments, physiological testing, nutritional consultation among many other things. They also provide athletes with discounts through their partners. Through this I am lucky enough to be able to use the Richmond Olympic Oval and yyoga free of charge.
Athletes CAN Fund
The Athletes CAN Fund is an amazing organization supporting hundreds of Canadian athletes. Since 2003 they have raised over 22 million dollars for Canadian Athletes. This not for profit organization has countlessly come up with unique and creative ways for people to help support athletes. Their latest Impact Campaign is one of these ways.
Phil Pesek- Phil and his wife have made a wonderful contribution to help support my career. There contribution is going directly to fund my nutritional needs for this season including the gels, bars and powders that I need to maximize performance and recovery. Thank you so much Phil!
Andrew Buddle- Like Phil and his wife, Andrew has jumped on board in 2016 to lend me a very helping hand. It always amazes me that people actually read this blog, let alone feel that I am someone worth supporting. Thank you so much for believing in me Andrew and supporting my journey!
